Hi all!
Thank you for the links so far. Found some really great stuff.
Last term I was extremely inspired by Brene Brown's TED talk on 'The Power of Vulnerability', so I had a little look at other TED talks online. In 2010 there was a programme called 'TED Women: Reshaping the future'
http://conferences.ted.com/TEDWomen/program/

There are some great videos of the talks in the programme, but these are a few that I found interesting:

http://www.ted.com/talks/hanna_rosin_new_data_on_the_rise_of_women.html

http://www.ted.com/talks/madeleine_albright_on_being_a_woman_and_a_diplomat.html

Happy researching :)
Hope you are all having a good half term week.

Hello all again,

Thanks for the photo post fellas - very encouraging to see you working on lines too! Currently laid up ill at home, giving me time to listen to 'Woman's Hour' on Radio 4. I think it is a great place to sharpen up your ideas and thoughts about Feminism and Gender Politics. Today's episode was particularly interesting, and you can listen again here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01sdg2c

I have also just ordered the book 'The Beauty Myth' by Naomi Wolf, which I think is super relevant. Check it out here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2005/oct/18/classics.shopping or get it cheap on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beauty-Myth-Images-Against-Women/dp/0099861909

It would be great to hear from more of you, to hear your thoughts and responses to the play....
Is everyone on here now? I think I sent invites to everyone?

Very best,
Emma x

The Panel and Some Numbers

The men of 'Women, Power and Politics: Now' after a line run!

Despite making up 52% of the British electorate, women make up less than 25% of the House of Commons, less than 20% of the House of Lords and less than 13% of David Cameron's cabinet.

Love the photo fellas! So looking forward to getting started with you soon!

Hi all,

So I am starting my journey of research into the world and themes of the play, and think it would be great for you to do so too. I am not fussy about sources, and think you can never read too much around the area of the play.

For updates on current stories about women in politics:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/women

For background on the role of women in Parliament:

http://www.parliament.uk/education/online-resources/parliament-explained/women-in-politics/

If you want some recommendations of reading by Feminist Writers, check out this list:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/sep/26/gender.politicsphilosophyandsociety

Check out Caitlin Moran's writing; she is a journalist and writer, and I recently devoured her book 'How to be a Woman' which gives some astute insights into the 21st Century challenges of Feminism: Check out her website: http://www.caitlinmoran.co.uk/index.php

So - that's my starters list, and I'll no doubt be adding more. Please feel free to do so too!

Welcome on board!

To the 'WPP' Company,

Welcome to this exciting adventure. I am looking forward to working, exploring, playing and discovering with you over the coming weeks. I always find a shared company blog to be a most valuable resource to support a rehearsal journey, so have taken the liberty of setting one up for us. Over the coming weeks, we will all be in engaged in our own strands of research and developing thoughts. I would like to invite you to share your findings here, so that we can all benefit from everyone's material. You can easily post links, images, video clips, your own scribbles post rehearsals. Due to the nature of the three pieces being separate, it will also be nice to link us back together via this blog.

So - all to do now, is accept the invite to be an author and bookmark this blog so you can easily access it.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon,

Very best,
Emma x
