The Bechdel Test

Hi all,

Fantastic day, so keen to get started and get the show on its feet!

Here's a very interesting TED talk (we're big fans of those!) on gender bias in media - specifically films. There's a very clear and informative section on the Bechdel Test which I mentioned today, but the whole thing is good! http://t.co/F0qkc71GNc

Following Georgie's bad week for women, I just wanted to flag Franca Rame's death last Wednesday  in Milan. She was Dario Fo's wife and creative partner and she's been fighting and writing for women's rights for the past six decades. You can find online some of her monologues; I recommend The Rape and A Woman Alone.
Here's a couple of obituaries:

Good evening all,

Wow - where did those last few weeks go? I can't believe Monday 3rd June is just around the corner, and the start of our exciting journey. We have been busy with production and design meetings, and are raring to go. I shall look forward to seeing you all for a 10am start on Monday - ready to play, share, explore and establish the world of our play/s. Just to let you know, at 2pm (after lunch), we will be having a model box sharing with Katie our designer, and this will be followed by a read through for us and some production team.

So have a great restful weekend, and I shall look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.

Suffragettes

Today is Derby day and the 100th anniversary of suffragette Emily Davisons death. Here's an article about the day she threw herself in front of the Kings horse and how people today are celebrating for her being a martyr for women's rights.

And speaking of suffragettes... Jessica Hynes has a new suffragette comedy sitcom 'Up the women' on BBC4. It started on Thursday night but catch up on BBC iplayer.
